  For a long time, I’ve been hesitant about writing this review as I don’t want my words to be hurtful to the genuinely nice, hard-working people who work at this salon. The reason I’m finally writing it is because I don’t want anyone else to have to go through what I’m still going through, ten months later.
  
  I went to the NOPA location for a partial, dark blonde balayage, making sure to show the stylist photos of my desired result. The stylist was really nice and very focused on coloring. After she painted my hair, she said “we’ll leave [the chemicals] on for 35 minutes.” Having had my hair colored many times before, this seemed like a long time to me – but I deferred to her expertise. I checked my phone and set my timer for 35 minutes. The stylist disappeared into the back. At 30 minutes, I started looking around, expecting her to come back soon. She didn’t. At 40 minutes, I got up and asked the client coordinator at the front to find the stylist. “Don’t worry,” she said. “After the solution has processed your hair, it becomes inactive. It doesn’t matter if it’s in your hair for longer than 35 minutes. It’s not doing anything.” 45 minutes, 50 minutes, 55 minutes passed. Just after the one hour mark, the stylist appeared from the back room. She washed and toned my hair. The front pieces were a bluish purple, which she assured me would come out with my next shampoo. The remaining pieces were platinum -– not remotely like the dark blonde I’d asked for. She blow dried it, but the hair was so horribly damaged that even with a professional blow out, it looked straw-like and frizzy. I paid, well over $200, and left. The blue did not wash out with the next shampoo – though it did “come out,” along with entire chunks of hair around my face (that broke off near the scalp.) They broken off pieces had a horrible, dry texture. The pieces are slowly growing back in, but coming in straight up so that I have a constant tiara of dry frizz. For 10 months, I’ve cried every time I brush my hair. I cried at Sephora once when an associate was trying to help me find something that would help my destroyed hair. My hair used to be pretty – thick, beautiful and shiny. The damage to my hair during this experience has made me feel unattractive and even depressed. I’ve seen many photos of gorgeous color results at Population Salon; only wish I’d had a similar experience. Hopefully my scenario was a fluke, though I won’t be going back to find out.. But if you have your hair colored here, set your timer and do not let anyone tell you no when it’s time to wash the out the chemicals. Save yourself the nightmare I’ve been living.
